Colorado Springs, Colorado, the seat of El Paso County, is in the central part of the state. It is the second largest city in Colorado.

Economy:
Colorado Springs is primarily thought of as a tourism center, but in recent years manufacturing and technology have become important parts of the economy. Specifically, the city is involved in mining, computers, electronics, and aeronautic fields. MCI has several facilities in the city that employ a large number of residents. Even more so, though, the many military establishments in the area provide significant employment for Colorado Springs, and will always ensure a good deal of business for local Colorado Springs movers.

History:
General William Palmer, a Civil War veteran, founded the area in 1871 in hopes of making it a resort center. Many tourists from English were drawn to the settlement in the coming years and gold was discovered in the area in the 1890's which brought additional people to the region. Wealthy men such as Spencer Penrose and Charles Tutt helped shape this city as a resort and make it what it is today. Around World War II, the military purchased a large amount of land around the city which led to many establishments in the area. First, the training facility Fort Carson was built. In the 1950's, the Air Force Academy was built and then soon after the Peterson Air Force Base, Falcon Air Force Base, and Cheyenne Mountain Air Force Base were all constructed.

Tourism:
The Colorado Springs Airport is located eight miles outside of the city. There are several collegiate and minor league sports teams in the area. Pikes Peak is the most known attraction of Colorado Springs, lying to the west of the city and reaching 14,110 feet high. Other destinations of the city include the Garden of the Gods, Cave of the Winds, and the Manitou Cliff Dwellings.

  • The U.S. Olympic Committee and Olympic Training Center complex is based in Colorado Springs.
  • Colorado Springs stands as a popular tourist destination attracting six million people each year.
  • The city was officially incorporated in 1886.
  • Pikes Peak Community College
  • University of Colorado at Colorado Springs
  • Colorado College
  • Colorado Technical University
  • Blair College
  • United States Air Force Academy (11 Miles)
  • University of Southern Colorado (43 Miles)
