Clinton Township, Michigan (also known as the Great Lakes State), is located on the ‘thumb' of the Michigan Peninsula on Lake Michigan, in the Detroit Metropolitan Area. According to statistics published in 2009, Clinton Township is most the densely populated town in south eastern Michigan and has over 41,000 residents (a 5.72 percent increase since 2000) – ranking it as the eighth largest municipality in the State.

Those moving to Clinton Township will also discover a land area of 28.2 square miles; the area of water comprises three branches of the Clinton River which run through the township. The major cities nearest to Clinton Township are Ann Arbor and Toledo in Ohio, which is almost 35 miles away. Nearby towns are Tecumseh, Britton, Manchester, Onsted, Adrian, Saline, Milan and Brooklyn.

Economy:
The region surrounding Clinton Township is where a large majority of Michigan State's industrial and business sectors are located. The unemployment statistic for the area is 7.3 percent and, together with affordable housing and a relatively low cost of living index of 14.70 percent below the United States average, Clinton Township is deemed to be a stable economic environment.

The Michigan Federal Government constructed the Clinton Township Housing Commission in 1968 to provide good and safe housing for families on low incomes.

History:
The land surrounding what is today Clinton Township was originally settled by Moravian Missionaries who came to the area in an attempt to convert the local Native Americans; and Moravian Drive, which is the main road in Clinton Township, dates from those times.

In August of 1818 a settlement called Huron Township was formalized; its name being derived from the Huron River but, as there was another river called Huron further south in Detroit, its name was changed to the Clinton River and thus the settlement became known as Clinton. In 1824 it took the name of Clinton Township to honor the then Governor of New York, De Witt Clinton, who was one of the main developers of the Erie Canal which facilitated transport and access routes to the area.

Tourism:
Visitors to Clinton Township will enjoy outdoor recreational facilities on the Clinton River, three branches of which flow through the town, or at Metro Beach Metropark, including fishing and boating.

The history of the town can be traced at the Macomb County Historical Society, the Michigan Transit Museum and the Crocker House Museum.
Children will enjoy a tour of the Morley Candy Makers factory.
